From 2011-2013 and 2016-2017 I completed 3 years of book binding classes at the J.J. Gaillard Academie des Beaux Arts de Saint-Gilles in Brussels. From a young age I have always had a keen interest in making my own books. Now the notion of books are line of inquiry in itself, both in terms of structure and as a way of defining a space.
The below books were inspired by the two spaces I was working at the time, the dining room at my home which doubles as my studio and the book binding studio itself. This work is an evolution of a piece entitled Counterbalance II which I created in 2016 for a room at Maison Pelgrims as part of my Reflections and Absences exhibition. This small work made of silver leaf and an overlay of cut waterford paper depicted a window and the light flooding through it onto the floor and was exhibited in the same room opposite the window which inspired it.
